Is the Offenbach Christmas Market Worth Visiting?
Yes, the Offenbach Christmas Market is worth visiting.
While it’s smaller and less well-known than Frankfurt’s main market, I think that is all part of its charm.
The market offers a cozier atmosphere, with fewer crowds.
My guess is that there were more locals there than tourists on the night that John and I visited (judging by the few non-German conversations we overheard).
You’ll still find traditional stalls selling handmade gifts, delicious food, and of course, Glühwein!
It’s perfect if you want a less touristy experience and feel like a local, while still enjoying the holiday spirit.
Plus, Offenbach is just a short trip from Frankfurt, and very close to the main subway line, making it easy to add to your Christmas market tour.
Would we make a special trip here from another part of Germany? Honestly, no.
The market is too small for a special trip. But if you are in the Frankfurt area, it’s worth a stop.

About the Offenbach Christmas Market
The Offenbach Christmas Market has been a holiday tradition since the 1970s.
It offers a more intimate and local feel compared to the larger markets nearby.
Held at Wilhelmsplatz, it features around 25 stalls selling handmade gifts, decorations, and traditional German holiday foods like bratwurst and mulled wine.
This cute little market has stalls filled with locally-made items and regional specialties, making it a great place to find authentic, one-of-a-kind gifts.
We happened to stumble on it because our hotel was just across the street and we could see all the twinkling lights from our room.
The market is small enough that you won’t need more than an hour to really enjoy it. Unless of course, you are staying for some food, warm drinks, or the live music!
Things to Do at the Offenbach Christmas Market
1. Sip Warm Gluhwein
You can’t visit a German Christmas Market without sipping on at least one cup of Glühwein! And if you don’t drink alcohol, the Kinderpunsch is quite nice as well!
We found plenty of outdoor tables as well as indoor spots to stand and enjoy your warm drinks.
They even had these really cozy little booths to sit inside to enjoy your drinks.
2. Marvel at the Lifesize Nativity
One of the first things you will see before entering the main market, is the giant Nativity.
While you can’t get too close, you can still see the intricate details on the life-sized figures.
You don’t have to be religious to appreciate how different these Nativity scenes look from one market to another.
3. Shop for Handmade Gifts and Souvenirs
Bet you can’t walk through this cute little market without something catching your eye!
The market’s stalls are filled with unique, handcrafted items made by local artisans.
You can find everything from wooden toys to festive ornaments.
And although not handcrafted, I always love looking at the Christmas Stars! (I bought 2!)
4. Try Traditional German Food
If you can make it through a German Christmas Market without indulging in at least one treat, you must have super-human will!
For me, it’s always the scent of roasted and candied nuts that gets me!
Just like other markets, you will find the classics like Bratwurst, roasted chestnuts, and Lebkuchen, along with some other local specialties here.
5. Admire the Christmas Pyramid
The Christmas Pyramid is an iconic fixture that you will find at EVERY German Christmas Market.
And just like the Nativity, each one is unique in every market. They are all intricately decorated with a Christmas theme of some kind.
I just love looking at them!
The one thing that the majority of the Pyramids have in common, is that they usually house a Glühwein stand. And Offenbach’s market is no exception!
6. Grab a Selfie on Santa’s Sleigh
If you are looking for that perfect photo for the ‘Gram, the Offenbach Christmas Market has the perfect spot.
They have a life-sized sleigh with reindeer (not real ones) for you to climb into for that perfect photo.
Would be an awesome spot for a Christmas-card-worthy photo of the family as well!
