Heading to Switzerland and wondering what souvenirs to bring home? We have some ideas!
Sure, if you are anything like me, you’ll snap loads of photos. But there’s nothing like bringing home a piece of your journey.
During our multiple visits to Switzerland, we have brought home everything from chocolate to pressed pennies, ornaments to GlĂĽwein mugs, and everything in between.
So, whether you’re after something unique or classic, our list of best souvenirs from Switzerland will surely have something that captures your interest.
Let’s jump right in!
25 Best Souvenirs from Switzerland to Bring Home
To make things a little easier, we have broken down our list of best Swiss souvenirs into categories.
Whether you are shopping for kids, friends, relatives, or yourself, you are sure to find something that is meaningful or just plain fun!
Best Swiss Souvenirs for Foodies
If you are anything like our family, food and travel are strongly intertwined. So naturally, quite a few of the best souvenirs from Switzerland that we want to mention, are edible!
1. Swiss chocolate
I am a chocoholic, so naturally, Swiss chocolate is the first item on our list!
Swiss chocolate is famous for being very smooth and high quality.
Brands like Lindt, known for their creamy truffles, and Toblerone, with its unique triangle shape and mix of honey and almond, are great examples of why this chocolate is special.

And that doesn’t even cover the higher-end truffles like Läderach or SprĂĽngli.
These chocolates are not just tastier than many others, they also look good.
What could be a better gift (provided it actually makes it home – which most of our chocolates have not)?
2. Swiss cheese
We also love cheese. And with charcuterie boards being all the rage these days, what better souvenir to bring home, than some tasty Swiss cheese?
And no, we are not referring to the cheese with the holes that you can get everywhere in North America. We are talking about the good stuff!
Popular types like Gruyère, a smooth, slightly sweet cheese perfect for melting, Emmental, famous for its nutty flavour, and Appenzeller, which is spicy and herbal, aged in a unique herbal brine.

Some of these cheeses, especially artisan varieties and those aged for extended periods can be hard to find in North America. Or, they’re much more expensive.
Bringing home some authentic Swiss cheese will let family and friends share in a taste experience that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.
3. Basler Läckerli
Basler Läckerli is a traditional Swiss biscuit that is absolutely delicious!
Originating from Basel, these spiced biscuits are crunchy and loaded with honey, almonds, candied peel, and a mix of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

Similar to gingerbread, Basler Läckerli were originally made for celebrations during the end of the year, but are now enjoyed all year round.
They have a long shelf life, making them perfect for bringing home from a trip. They are also relatively inexpensive, making them perfect for any budget.
4. Rivella
Rivella is definitely something that is uniquely Swiss.
This beverage is actually a soft drink made from milk whey, giving it a slightly tangy and refreshing taste that’s quite different from typical sodas.
Popular in Switzerland but not widely available in North America, Rivella comes in several flavours, including original, green tea, and red (which is sugar-free).
Rivella is available in most grocery stores, so grabbing a few bottles to bring home shouldn’t be difficult. Besides, it will make a great conversation starter!
5. Cheese Fondue Set
A cheese fondue set is a wonderful souvenir to bring back from Switzerland, especially if you fell in love with the dish during your visit.
Fondue, a popular Swiss dish, that involves melting cheese and dipping bread into it, is typically shared among friends or family around a communal pot.

A complete set usually includes a caquelon (the traditional fondue pot), a burner, and long-stemmed forks.
This set allows you to recreate the warm, social experience of a Swiss fondue at home.
And what better excuse to have friends or family over for dinner, than to break out your new fondue set!
6. White wine
I had no idea that Swiss wines were a thing!
While Switzerland may not be as famous as its neighbours for winemaking, the quality of its white wines is exceptional.
The cool climate and mountainous terrain lend these wines distinctive flavours that are subtle yet complex.

Varieties like Chasselas, a light and crisp wine, are popular locally but rarely exported in large quantities. This makes them a rare find outside of Switzerland.
So bringing a bottle of Swiss white wine home would definitely be a special souvenir or gift for someone.
7. Swiss cook Book
Our oldest daughter started collecting cookbooks as her souvenir of choice during our travels to Greece. Makes perfect sense given she is a chef.
But it definitely made me realize what a perfect souvenir it really is.
Filled with recipes for famous Swiss dishes, like cheese fondue, rösti potatoes, and sweet treats like Basler Läckerli and even chocolate truffles, how could you go wrong?
With a Swiss cookbook, you can make these traditional dishes at home, letting you relive your Swiss adventures through food.
And it’s perfect for anyone who loves to cook or wants to try out new recipes.
Best Souvenirs from Switzerland for Kids
Considering we are a family travel blog, we would be remiss not to mention the most popular and best souvenirs from Switzerland for kids.

While some of the items are just plain cute, others can be geared toward a child’s interests, hobbies, or collections.
8. Hand-made wooden toys
Hand-made wooden toys really showcase Switzerland’s long tradition of craftsmanship.
These toys, often made from local Swiss wood, range from puzzles and games to cars and trucks, figurines and classic pull-toys.

Each piece is unique, reflecting the skill and care of the artisan who made it.
If you love to support local craftspeople, then bringing home a hand-crafted wooden toy would be an awesome gift that can be cherished for generations.
9. Heidi souvenirs
While my family is German, I grew up with several Heidi-themed books and toys.
Heidi souvenirs are popular because they are based on the famous story of “Heidi,” a young girl who lives in the Swiss Alps.
You can find a variety of Heidi-themed items like books with beautiful illustrations, dolls dressed in traditional Swiss outfits, and even puzzles that feature scenes from the story.
These souvenirs are loved because they remind people of the charming tale and the beautiful Swiss landscapes described in the book.
10. St Bernard dog souvenirs
St. Bernard dog souvenirs are a fun reminder of one of Switzerland’s most iconic symbols.
I actually had a St Bernard when I was younger, which naturally draws me to this type of souvenir.
These souvenirs celebrate the famous rescue dogs known for their role in helping lost travellers in the Swiss Alps.

You can find a variety of St. Bernard-themed items like plush toys, keychains, and even lifelike figurines.
I always have to smile when I see the toy dogs with traditional barrel collars. Definitely makes seem more authentic.
11. Magnets
Magnets are a classic and practical souvenir.
Not only are they easy to find and come in a ton of styles and colours, but they are relatively inexpensive and very easy to bring home – no matter how heavy your suitcase already is!
In Switzerland, magnets often feature iconic Swiss symbols like the Matterhorn, Swiss flags, or images of quaint villages and Alpine scenery.

And since our kids collect magnets, we usually spend a considerable amount of time in various souvenir shops, studying and debating over these little treasures.
So whether these will adorn your fridge or someone else’s, they make the perfect gift when you are at a loss of what to bring home.
12. Souvenir Coins
Souvenir coins, like flattened pennies or medallions, are fun keepsakes you can find at many attractions in Switzerland.
These coins are often pressed with designs that show off the place you visited, such as a mountain, museum, or landmark.

They’re a great way to remember each spot you stopped at during your travels.
And like magnets, these coins are inexpensive, easy to carry, and don’t take up much space in your suitcase.
Again, this is something my kids collect. So we actually have a list of places where we can find the pressed coin and medallion machines even before we enter the country!
Best Decorative Swiss Souvenirs
When it comes to the best Swiss souvenirs, some people prefer decorative items that will remind them of their travel adventures.
Trinkets that will be placed around the home, or used on a daily basis, are often a favourite for travellers.
13. Swiss Flag
While you don’t actually have to go out and buy a huge Swiss flag, you can find a ton of souvenirs that have a flag on them.
Whether it’s a patch, a pin, stickers for your laptop, any kind of knick-knack, or even clothing, a Swiss flag is the perfect way to remember your trip to Switzerland.

Most of these types of souvenirs can easily be found in gift shops all over the country. And most are relatively inexpensive as well.
14. Swiss cuckoo clocks
This souvenir from Switzerland does not come cheap!
Swiss cuckoo clocks are carefully crafted, often with intricate wooden designs that show off the skill of Swiss artisans.
And they aren’t just fancy clocks! They are definitely works of art.

John and I were actually dumbstruck by the details and fine craftsmanship that goes into these clocks.
No wonder they cost a small fortune!
15. Decorated cow bells
Decorated cowbells are a popular souvenir from Switzerland. You can find them in most souvenir shops for not a lot of money.
I wish that I still had the one that used to hang on my wall as a kid.

Each bell is usually made of metal and comes with colourful, artistic designs on the strap.
They often have pictures of the mountains, the Swiss flag or crest, or flowers on them.
They are pretty small and not too heavy making them easy to pack and carry home with you.
16. Starbucks You Are Here Mugs
Starbucks mugs are my absolute favourite souvenir to buy for myself. I realize that they are mass-produced in countries other than where you purchase them, but that does not deter me.
The You Are Here series of mugs which can be found in Switzerland are colourful and show a variety of designs and landmarks that are famous in each Swiss city.

These mugs are a fun way to remember the places you visited during your trip. In fact, each mug I own has incredible memories attached to it.
They’re also practical because you can use them every day for your coffee or tea, and they’re easy to take home as a gift or souvenir.
17. Christmas Ornaments
Christmas ornaments are another favourite souvenir of mine and make gorgeous gifts for your family and friends.
These beautifully crafted and festive gifts can be handmade from materials like wood, glass, or metal, and are completely unique.
You will also find a pretty good variety that will suit every budget.

And if the ornaments are not for yourself, you can always opt for something that is generic (but still gorgeous).
While ornaments don’t usually take up much room in your luggage, they may require a little more thought when it comes to packaging them so that they arrive in one piece.
18. GlĂĽhwein Mugs
GlĂĽhwein mugs are a popular souvenir if you are visiting the Christmas Markets.
Every time you order GlĂĽhwein (hot spiced wine), it is served in a festive mug.

These mugs are often uniquely designed each year and feature bright, seasonal artwork, making them collectible items.
Not only do they make a wonderful keepsake or gift, but they are inexpensive and easy to carry home.
(I was a little disappointed when I could not find a mug from the current year during our 2023 trip to the Lucerne Christmas Markets.)

One of the most popular and best souvenirs from Switzerland that you can take home, are items you can wear.
Whether it’s a Swiss designer that you can’t get anywhere else or Swiss-branded items with the colours of the flag, they make wonderful gifts for family and friends.

Traditional Swiss wear includes outfits like the dirndl for women and lederhosen for men.
These clothes are often worn at festivals and special events in Switzerland.
The dirndl is a dress that comes with a blouse, skirt, and apron. Lederhosen are knee-length trousers or shorts made from leather, often worn with suspenders and a checkered shirt.
These outfits are colourful and decorated with embroidery or patterns that show Swiss style.
The handmade outfits are exquisite and quite expensive.
However, if you are looking for something a little more budget-friendly (but unfortunately not as detailed), there are stores in Switzerland that carry more mass-produced outfits.
20. Swiss watches
What can I say? Aside from chocolate and cheese, Switzerland is known the world over for its precision timepieces.
The Swiss have a long tradition of watchmaking, where they pay a lot of attention to detail and quality.

People often buy Swiss watches as a special gift because they last a long time and look elegant.
So if you are in the market for an awesome watch, whether it’s a fancy or simple design, a Swiss watch makes a great souvenir.
21. Outdoor Gear
Not surprisingly, as a country known for its mountainous landscapes and varied outdoor activities, Switzerland is known for its excellent outdoor gear.
Popular Swiss brands like Mammut offer high-quality jackets and climbing gear, while Odlo specializes in functional sportswear ideal for skiing and other winter sports.
These brands are celebrated for their durability and design.
They also make great choices for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors, whether in Switzerland or back home.

Getting a Swiss Army knife as a souvenir is practical because you can use it for many things. You can even get them personalized (which of course, I did!).

One famous brand to look for is Reuge, which is known for high-quality music boxes that last a long time.
They are usually made of wood with pretty designs and are known for their impeccable craftsmanship.
These music boxes often play traditional Swiss tunes or well-known classical music.
While music boxes make a special gift, they are pretty costly and need to be handled carefully when flying home.

Coins and banknotes from Switzerland, known as SwissFrancs (CHF), can be a fun souvenir for those who collect foreign currency.
Each piece shows famous Swiss people, landmarks, and symbols.

The coins are interesting to see as well.
And best of all, you don’t need to go very far to find this souvenir. It’s right in your wallet!
25. SIGG bottle
Much like YETI or Contigo, a SIGG water bottle is a type of reusable bottle, only this brand is made in Switzerland.
They are known for being lightweight and durable, perfect for carrying water on hikes or in daily life.
I had a SIGG bottle for many years, and trust me when I tell you, it got put through the wringer but held up beautifully.
I love SIGG bottles because they come in many different colours and designs, so you can choose one that suits your style.
